The Countywide adoption and enforcement of Social Host Ordinances has led to fewer calls for service in the first cities to enact the law. Ventura County Limits is presently assessing the outcomes of the new policy and its impacts on various cities and the County as a whole, through a formal evaluation process. Plans include tracking the number and nature of party calls, crimes or incidents associated with them, and monitoring trends in underage drinking behavior in home settings over time. Now that the level of awareness about underage and binge drinking has been raised, and real local "teeth" are in place to deal with underage party hosts, we expect a long-term trend toward improved public safety.
